COVID-19 - Information

Community Response Fund

CWaC have established a ‘Community Response Fund’ to support community groups through this unprecedented time. The focus of the fund is to offer community organisations emergency funding to respond to issues as a result of Coronavirus.

Fantastic numbers of residents have pledged their support for the coordinated response to this current situation. The Community Response Fund will help community groups to provide valuable services. It could give support with things like training volunteers, administration, marketing, fuel, supplies and other costs.

Who can apply?

-  Any group based in Cheshire West and Chester

- Voluntary organisations, community groups, small charities and other not-for-profit organisations

Applications to the CRF will be considered from groups that show they are providing a service or initiative that benefits others in their community. Any grants over £500 will be considered but it is expected that most grants will be around £2,000. If groups do not have their own bank account, support can still be given, it will perhaps just need to be channelled through an alternative (such as a church, parish council or other constituted organisation).

An application form can be found at this location.

Garden Waste

All Garden waste collections are suspended until further notice so that resources can be concentrated on maintaining your scheduled household refuse collection service. Household waste and recycling collections will take place as per schedule.  Check when your recycling and black bin collections are here

Your garden waste collection questions answered.

How long is the service suspended for?

Garden waste collections are suspended until further notice. We cannot confirm at this stage when garden collections will resume.

Now that the garden collections are postponed will my waste collections become more frequent?

Recycling and household waste collections will continue to take place on your scheduled collection days. There will be no additional household waste collections.

Where do I take garden waste to for disposal?

Currently, waste recycling centres are not operational. Further updates will be made when appropriate.

Am I able to obtain a second garden bin to contain the extra garden waste I produce?

Residents are currently not able to order extra garden waste bins as we are unable to empty them.

I already have a second garden bin and have received a renewal payment letter. What should I do whilst garden waste collections are cancelled?

The annual payment for second garden bins will not be taken until the garden waste service resumes. We will ensure residents only pay for a 12-month service, residents will be contacted advising them of when their payment is required.

I paid for an additional green bin two months ago, can I get a refund to cover the suspended collections?

All annual renewals will be moved ahead by the number of weeks the service has been suspended by. For example, if a resident paid in February this year and we suspended for two months, their next renewal date would be April 2021

Can I place a small amount of garden waste into the domestic bin

Yes, but make sure there is enough room for domestic waste. Composting is an easy cheap alternative to putting garden waste into the domestic waste bin. Home composting is a low cost natural way to transform your kitchen and garden waste into a nutrient rich food for your garden.

Will I get a refund on my council tax?

Council tax refunds will not be given. Some authorities do charge for the collection of garden waste where CWaC don’t. However we need to suspend the service due to staffing levels during time. Domestic waste collections will continue. To find out more about council tax visit

Public Meeting with Harworth Estate Investments Ltd, the owners of the former Golf Course

was held on Monday 25 November at St Oswald Primary School. 6 pm.

The owners were keen to work constructively with residents and local partners to better understand how the Golf Course was used and how permissive paths into and through the Golf Course can be improved. They noted our aspirations for a safe traffic free cycle and walking route connecting the village to the Countess of Chester Country Park. If you would like more information and have further comments following the meeting please contact Chair, Roger Jones.

Chester Half Marathon has been postoned until September

This year the event will be coming through the villages of Mollington and Lea. We appreciate that there will be some disruption to traffic for a period on the Sunday morning in question, but we hope that residents will see this event and an opportunity to show case our community spirit. We hope that many will come out to Marshal or cheer on the runners in their efforts to raise funds for worthy causes.

Event Road Closures

Chester Half Marathon Postoned until September

While runners on on the road it is not safe for cars to be on the road. There will be about an hour from approx. 09.15 to 10.20 am while the runners are on the southern part of Townfield Lane and Station Road, so these roads will be closed. Outside these times, where possible, our marshals will assist residents in and out of the village, via the A41. Please be considerate.

Marshal Volunteers

If you would like to volunteer to Marshal the Half Marathon as it passes through the village, please get in touch with Roger or Christine Jones 01244 851842

Some residents have expressed concern at the number of trees which have be felled on private land in recent years. Applying Tree Protection Orders on trees in the Parish is a lengthy and resource heavy exercise. We would therefore ask residents to respect these wonderful old trees and make every effort to care for any on their land, for the benefit of all. We are presently walking the village to record significant trees. Oak, beech, sycamore and Horse Chestnut trees line our hedgerows and many of our front garden boundaries. If you are out and about, walking the village and you see a tree you think is worthy of recording, please let us know.
